Loved and appreciated! That's how I feel after a wonderful week! Thank you for all the flowers, cards, treats, coffees, the breakfast, and the lunch. Not to mention the breakfast and lunch provided by the PTA. I am definitely spoiled, but mostly because of the continued support you offer as we work together to support your child.
This week was also Exceptional Children's Week. The PTA arranged for 2 speakers from the KylePeasefoundation to speak to third grade. Kyle's brother and a young man with cerebral palsy shared how these exceptional people are also athletes even though they may look and talk differently. Check out the website to learn more about these incredible young people and ask your child about the computer he used to speak for him. QUESTIONS TO ASK: What was your favorite part of Mr. Popper's Penguins? What has your STEAM group decided to do for its Public Service Announcement? What are three ways a text might be organized? (sequence, cause and effect, and compare/contrast) REMEMBER: * We will celebrate our Valentine's Day this Wed. Feb. 13. * Thursday, Feb. 14 is Picture Day. We will have our class picture taken that day! *Please write a note to your child and return the parent journal by Wednesday. NEXT WEEK: Math - This week students might need a little more support at home as they learn about elapsed time - or how much time passes between events. Other examples - if a movie begins at 6:15 and we live 30 min. away - what time would we need to leave the house? We will spend one more week concentrating on the 7s tables. Language Arts: In reading students will continue to examine different articles reviewing their structure, inferring implicit answers in the text, and write responses citing evidence from the text to support their answers. This will be the final week on these opinion pieces. Students will examine successful conclusions and practice writing one of their own. STEAM: We look forward to speakers from Zimbabwe talking to us on Monday about the types of schools students attend and their homes. The speakers and the book Rain School will provide valuable background knowledge for our students as they build houses with limited resources. They will also learn about the Color Wheel and decide on the importance of art even with limited resources. Also on Monday Shannon Bond will come speak to us. This is the guidance program you gave your child permission to attend. So, Monday night would be a good night for a follow up discussion to see if your child has any questions. Again, thank you for making my week so wonderful! Have a great weekend!
