The students are doing a great job maintaining focus and showing what they know during our testing. As you know, due to Irma days off we will still be testing next Monday and Tuesday. Then we can put our desks back in groups and have a full day of learning! We will all be ready!
QUESTIONS: - Ask your child 3 different ways to show multiplication. -Ask them to tell you the story (small moment) they are using for their 2nd personal narrative. REMINDERS: Next Friday is Walk to School Day. The school has sent out an email listing all of the drop off spots. You do NOT have to walk with your child. I will walk from the Chimney Springs Clubhouse if your child wants to walk with me. We leave the clubhouse at 7:00. Let's try to have 100% participation! NEXT WEEK: Language Arts - Students will work through the steps to write a second personal narrative while I have small group conferences to help them grow their stories like storytellers. Math - We will continue to explore the different ways to represent multiplication and the relationship between multiplication and division. STEM - After much planning and collaborating STEM groups will build their mineral display cases. Social Studies - The class will begin learning about early American Indian cultures and their development in North America, as well as, why the different groups occupied the areas they did. Have a great weekend! .

The class did a great job with testing this week! Remember we have 4 more days next week, so continue to do all the great things you were doing this week. Enjoy the pictures below of the students working in groups to solve a word problem. If your child has me on Thursday ask them how we used the See Saw app to label a favorite character with 5 character traits. (Mrs. Dean helped)
NEXT WEEK: Besides testing we will begin to explore the basic concepts of multiplication, continue revising our narrative writing, and learn how activating prior knowledge when reading helps us make more meaningful connections. Ask your child the three types of connections we studied this week. Enjoy the beautiful weather while it is here. It is hard to believe it is already September and we've been in school a month! I'm so impressed by how the students already work so well together and know the expectations of third grade. Even more importantly we have lots of students learning to LOVE to read. (Don't worry - I'll keep working on the others. ) Thank you to everyone who contributed to Hats for Harvey. What a great response. It is not surprising, though. The Tritt community is always generous and thoughtful and I'm proud to be part of it. QUESTIONS TO ASK: What is the difference in a rock and a mineral? What properties do we use to identify minerals/rocks? What is schema (prior knowledge) and why did we study it during reading? We had our first meeting with our Book Buddies (Mrs. Smith's K class) today! Ask your child his/her book buddy's name and what they did together. REMINDERS: -Sept. 6-8 is CoGat testing and Sept. 11-15 is IOWA testing. Please don't add any stress to the students. If they are rested, well fed, and come in happy they will do their best. -The students did not write in their parent journals this week due to the long weekend, so no homework for you. -Thank you for remembering to sign your child's planner each night if they read their 20 min. and noting a make up time if you had a busy night. I do not check planners after a long weekend, so another break for you! NEXT WEEK: Math - We will learn how to break down 2-step word problems in addition/subtraction and explain our thinking with words. Students will have an example in their math journals to follow each night when they complete their homework. Reading - We will continue practicing making meaningful connections with text. Using our prior knowledge helps our thinking to go deeper, faster. Our class has also turned into a great group of word collectors learning that new words are interesting g and exciting . Writing: - Students chose 1 piece out of their notebooks this week to be their seed piece. They will continue to learn revision techniques to make their piece grow and sound more like a storyteller's voice and less like a news reporter's voice. Enjoy the long weekend! |
