Wow! Thank you to everyone who was able to come and support the kickball game!!!! It was so much fun and a huge success. Even though we didn't win the game we did accomplish the goal -raise money for the Rally Foundation. Together everyone raised over $11,000! Thank you for being part of such a worthy endeavor.
Our class was also very successful during testing. Thanks again for all the support making sure they were here, ready, and on time. We are sooo glad that's over and we can resume a normal routine and have fun learning. Thank you to Mrs. Dean for coming to our class with the IPAD cart for math this week. My math students are using Spark Video to make presentations that teach the 5 different multiplication strategies they've learned. You will have an opportunity to scan a QR code while you're waiting for your conference and watch them. STEM: In science students had a great time using 15 Starbursts to make models of Igneous (lava, magma) , Metamorphic (heat and pressure) ,and Sedimentary (layers) rocks. I've included those simple, key words so you can ask your child how they made their models. REMINDERS: International Walk To School Day at Tritt Wednesday, Oct. 5 I'll be walking from the Chimney Springs Clubhouse! Come join me. Parents you don't have to walk with us, but are certainly invited. We would like to invite you to walk/ bike to school on Wednesday, Oct 5. You can walk/bike with your parents or you can join the Tritt Staff at the following spots:
WHEN WE RETURN: Homework and planner signing will resume Monday night! Math: Finish our presentations and begin understanding what it means to divide. Reading: Begin exploring what character traits are and how getting to know our character helps us understand the story better. Writing: Add transition words to narratives, edit for spelling, and make the final revisions before we publish the next week. Science: In the science lab students have been learning about the different types of soils. We will study the layers of soil and receive a study guide for a test about soils the following week. I hope you have a wonderful break and some great family time.

The first ever pep rally at Tritt was tons of fun on Friday. We are very excited to play the Mt. Bethel faculty on Tuesday at 5:00 at Walton High School. I hope you all will bring your children and come support a great cause while giving them the opportunity to feel a part of a great school community. Not to mention they'll get a chance to laugh with their teacher while she tries to be a cheerleader.
The class is doing great during testing. I'm proud of how hard they are concentrating. They are definitely giving it their best. Just three more days. Tomorrow is Language Arts, Math is Tuesday, and Science/Social Studies wraps it up on Wed. Please talk to your child about finishing strong. REMEMBER: - Students might want 2 healthy snacks this week. Continue to make sure they go to bed on time, eat a good breakfast, and bring their snacks. - Return your yellow conference confirmation slip if you haven't yet. NEXT WEEK: Reading Strategy: Visualizing and how key words help you make the picture in your head. Then use key words in your own writing to help your reader feel like they are there. We finished our 2nd read aloud - ask your child what Donovan learned about his words and how we are now word collectors in our room. Writing: Continue to work on revising personal narratives - learning 5 different ways to hook the reader and begin a piece successfully; as well as, what makes an excellent ending. Math: Continue to master the different multiplication strategies. Ask your child if they can show you how to solve a problem using arrays, groups, number line, and skip counting. We will also solve some basic word problems with multiplication. FUN NEWS! We will go meet with our book buddies, Mrs. Arasi's K class for the first time this week. The class filled up the compliment bucket!! They voted to have lunch in the room with a movie. We will do that on Friday, so I wouldn't plan on eating lunch with us that day. Enjoy the last few nights of no homework because of testing. There will be some math practice Wed. night and Thur. night. Have a great week! . Our STEM Day last Wednesday was a great success! Students were fossil excavators as they designed a device that could fit in a 1 ft. crevice, travel 3 ft. high, and hold as many fossils as possible. It was obvious from the beginning that these students have worked in cooperative groups for several years now. The critical thinking skills were exciting to watch as students planned, shared ideas, discussed options and created their devices. After testing their devices, groups had an opportunity to improve and try again. Ask your child how many "fossils" their group excavated and how they made their device. REMINDERS: - Testing begins next Tuesday through the following Wednesday. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep, eats a nutritious breakfast, and brings a healthy snack. -Also, please make sure your child knows his/her address! Mrs. Edwards did an activity last week and many students didn't know theirs. For their safety practice this often. - SUPPORT THE RALLY FOUNDATION and come out to the Tritt/Mt. Bethel kickball game!!! The details are in the previous post. We are going to have a GREAT time and raise money for an important charity. I look forward to cheering on our team. NEXT WEEK: Math: We are finishing 3 digit addition/subtraction (for now). I've also introduced the template we use for problem solving. We will use this format throughout the year as students learn how to tackle word problems. Next week we will have fun introducing multiplication with arrays and repeated addition. Because of testing math will be at the end of the day. Reading and Writing: As the students learned how to identify the main idea and supporting details of texts, they've heard some wonderful mentor texts. Ask them to tell you about the main ideas of Christina Katarina and the Time She Quit the Family and Wilford Gordon MacDonald Partridge. Next week we wlll practice the new strategy of extending vocabulary. Our new read aloud Donovan's Word Jar is about a little boy who collects words. Students will become word collectors as they identify new vocabulary and interesting words in their reading and then record them on their word collector charts which they will keep in their reading notebooks. This dovetails perfectly with our next writing revision lessons - adding new and interesting words to your writing. Science/Social Studies - after completing their science post test tomorrow the class will have fun making the three types of rocks out of Starbursts. In Social Studies we began our study of map terms - compass rose, equator, prime meridian, longitude, and latitude and this will continue into next week. I hope everyone had a great Labor Day and has a super weekend! |
