Well, if you read the email you know this is another time where the website said the blog was published, but there was nothing in the content area. So take 2...
We had a wonderful time celebrating our Veterans on Friday! Thank you to Mr. Rowell, Piper's dad for coming in and telling our class all about his experiences. Thank you to any of you that have served in our military! In writing our class created a paragraph together about the day. The lesson reviewed how to write a topic sentence, 2-3 detail sentences, and a concluding sentence. Many students chose to use that paragraph as one of their two required paragraphs, so you should be able to read even more details. Take a look at your child's journal and see how their paragraph writing is progressing. It is also a great child to check in on your child's listening comprehension skills. Our parent reader finished Because of Winn Dixie for us on Friday. Ask your child what Opal learned about friendship and how Winn Dixie helped her make new friends. They've been using the R.A.C.E. strategy learning to write constructed responses. R. restate the question as a sentence. A. answer the question.C. use quotes/examples from the text to cite evidence that proves your answer. E. explain how the quotes support your answer. Yes, they can do this in 3rd grade. Wow! They are impressive. REMEMBER: - Practice those multiplication tables - this Thursday's time test will include the 5s tables. -We have used all of our extra snacks if a few of you could send in some more individually wrapped, peanut free, snacks - thanks. NEXT WEEK: Reading - After writing one more response about Because of Winn Dixie we will introduce and explore informational reading with nonfiction. I have so many fun nonfiction books I can't wait to share with them! Writing - Students will use the information they gather from their nonfiction books to further develop their paragraph writing skills. Math - Now students have a chance to apply their multiplication skills finding the areas of squares and rectangles. Social Studies - The first American hero, Paul Revere, will be introduced and students will begin their American Heroes Journals that you will see at the end of the year. Science - Our class will learn about weathering and erosion in a fun STEM activity involving sugar cubes. Hope you had a great weekend!
