Thank you to the moms who came in and played math games this morning. I think Math with Parents was a big success. One of the boys asked me, "Why did we just do that?" I asked him if he practiced his math skills "yes" and if he had fun "yes". "Ahhh", he said as the answer dawned on him. It is becoming apparent that quite a few students are a little rusty with their math facts. Please practice those at home, in the car, or anywhere for at least 5-10 min. a day. That will make a huge difference in their abilities to master 3 digit addition and subtraction.
Reminders: Mark your calendars for Sept. 20 at 5:00 for the Tritt vs. Mt. Bethel faculty kickball game. Your child brought home a flyer about the event and the important charity that the proceeds will support. I will be there as a "cheerleader"(no laughing), so come support our team, a great organization, and have some fun! Gifted Eligibility Process Informational Meeting Tritt’s Target Team will hold our annual Gifted Eligibility Process Informational Meeting on Thursday, September 1st, at 6:00 p.m. in the ILC. We will explain Cobb County’s eligibility process and criteria for the gifted program. If you are wondering about this process and how it relates to your child or have specific questions, please plan to join us on September 1st! Next Week: Reader's Workshop - students will continue to learn new reading strategies(finding the main idea and supporting details), as they are also introduced to the different types of traditional literature. We will use folktales, fairy tables, and fables to discover the main idea and then prove it with details from the text. Writer's Workshop:- There are no parent journals this weekend because the class really wanted to write their personal narratives today. It is wonderful how excited they are about writing them. Ask your child the small moment they are writing about. They will continue to write those next week, while they also learn sentence fluency - good writers use complete sentences, vary the length of their sentences, include important details in their sentences, and vary the beginnings of their sentences. Math - they will finish practicing the addition strategies and begin learning strategies that help with subtraction. Science/Social Studies - we will have our first gardening lesson with Mrs. Stone on Wed. during our time. Our class is going with Mrs. Love's class, so we will all be together. We will continue our study of rocks/minerals and government. On our STEM showcase day on Wed. students will be creating a "fossil excavator"! You can ask them all about it Wed. after school. Have a great weekend!
