Tomorrow is Arts in Education Day at Tritt! It is one of the most fun days of the year. Thank you to the PTA and all of their volunteers for putting together such a special day for everyone. I hate to miss such a fun day, but my daughters and I are taking my mom to NYC for her 80th birthday! The class will be under the great supervision of Dr. Kleinman and they were very excited when they heard the news. I have stressed with them the need to be on their best behavior tomorrow and VERY respectful to all of the presenters. The class will eat in the room, so I wouldn't plan on eating lunch with your child tomorrow.
REMINDERS: - Invention Convention projects are due next Wed. May 3. There is very little other homework to make sure students have time to have fun with this! - Friday, May 5 is college day at Tritt. Everyone should wear their favorite college gear to school. - Tuesday, May 9 after school is the Faculty/Parent Softball game to raise money for the Rally Foundation. I'm hanging up my first base glove this year to have some fun being an umpire! - Friday, May 12 from 7:30-8:30am is our author's tea in the classroom. NEXT WEEK: Reading and Writing - Students are discovering their inner poets and doing a fabulous job. Math - This will be a week of making sure those multiplication facts are memorized. We will also be practicing reading a 2-step word problem and determining which operation(s) to use to solve it. Science - Our exploration of magnets will continue. Ask your child about the fun they had with the Magnet Mystery Science lesson. Social Studies - A new American Hero, LBJ, is the focus and all he did to help support civil rights. We also have a special visit from Eleanor Roosevelt. Have a great weekend!

You're children are impressive! They have remained focused, done their best, and stayed quiet as their classmates finished. Some of our early finishers had to sit still for an hour while others finished testing. Whew! That would be hard for most of us. The Reading/Writing portion is finished and Monday and Tuesday are math. Thanks again for making sure your child is in bed on time, has a good breakfast, and comes to school happy. They are also loving those extra snacks. Working so hard must burn extra calories!
We did have some fun today with our book buddies. Ask your child what they did with jelly beans and who they have as a book buddy. . It is incredibly heartwarming to see how excited they become when I announce we are seeing our book buddies. REMINDERS: - In your child's folder is a more comprehensive letter about Invention Convention. Please cut off the bottom, sign it, and return it on Monday. All children who return it Monday receive 50 Bonus Bucks. - I'm still missing some registration forms and brown envelopes that went home last week. PLEASE return those Monday, as well. - The students also have a flyer about a CLASS talent show IF they are interested. The deadline for that to be returned is Friday, May 11. - Our Poetry Coffeehouse is Friday, May 12 from 7:30-8:30. -Keep helping your child practice those multiplication tables!!!!!!!!!!! NEXT WEEK: Friday is Arts in Ed day so please don't come eat lunch with your child. They will be eating in the room. - Reading/Writing - We will be "climbing into many poems" to discover how much fun poetry can be and why it is so important. Students create "doors to poetry" that help them realize where they can find ideas for poems - a heart door, a memory door, etc. Finally, they examine the structure of different types of poems and create their own. Be ready to be wowed at our poetry coffeehouse. -Math - After so much review and two days of math testing next week we will take a day to play math games to help the students master those multiplication facts and Thursday we have math with parents. Yea! Science - We will start exploring magnets. Have a great weekend and buckle your seat belts! MAY is right around the corner and we all know how FUN (busy) that month is. It is no surprise to you that our Milestone Testing begins next Wednesday, April 19th. Your child has probably told you that we've been reviewing and practicing and they are ready! I think they are realizing that some of the questions they've missed are because they didn't read the question or the choices carefully enough. They are also realizing how much they've learned this year! They know how to write narrative, informative, and opinion pieces, how to read 2 articles and compare the content, and to use clues to infer meanings of words and predict what would happen next. Of course, that's just a few of the main concepts they are ready to do next week! Next Wed. - Fri are the reading/writing portions of the test with math following the next Mon-Tues. PLEASE make sure your child gets a good night's sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, and comes to school after a positive morning at home (I remember that's not always the easiest). Also make sure all snacks are healthy and you might want to send in an extra. Testing begins promptly at 8:00! No one is allowed to enter the room after testing has started. Any child that comes in late has to wait in the media center and make up that part of the test later. The children know this is a great chance to show what they know and they are ready!
REMINDERS: *Read above about testing reminders. *There is no homework beginning Tuesday night, but PLEASE practice those multiplication facts with your child (just in the car, etc.). It is also a great time to work on the Invention Convention project. Next Week - Testing will be over after two hours at the most. Lunch and specials stay the same. We will use the remaining time to unwind with some extra recess and then review for what's coming next. I have lots of games planned to make the reviewing fun. If you celebrate have a Happy Easter and a wonderful spring weekend! |
