As you may have heard, the Falcons are going to the Super Bowl and we are having Falcons Spirit Week next week. Each class is decorating their door and each hallway is also going to be decorated. It was so much fun to watch the creativity, planning, and teamwork that took place as the students got to work! Everyone is involved in some capacity, so ask your child what he/she is doing. Some even gave up recess today to work on it (supervised by me, of course, while Mrs. Mahnich took the others outside). The door will be finished by Monday afternoon. I'll take a picture for the blog.
We also had a garden lesson with Mrs. Stone which was lots of fun. Due to the temperature we had it inside and the students planned gardens, determined the fractions of which type of vegetable they planted, as well as, the area and perimeter of the garden. Our next lesson will be in 5 weeks and hopefully, it will be warm enough to go outside and plant. REMINDERS: - Falcons spirit week is next week. Monday wear Falcon shirts or their colors and hats. Friday is our Super Bowl day. Wear your gear again and students may send in a snack to share with the class. REMEMBER we have a PEANUT ALLERGY - thanks!! - Penguins are due Feb. 2. Please make sure your child has all the components finished on time. -All book tests should be taken by Tuesday, Jan. 31. -Help your child pick out a new book for February/March. It will be due March 16. Please make sure that it is a book that will challenge them some. NEXT WEEK: Math - Students will learn to measure to 1/2 and 1/4 inch. Then they will use the data to make and interpret line plots. Also, they will have a test including the 8s, so help them study, please. Reading - What will happen at the end of Mr. Popper's? We will finally find out this week as we finish the book, write summaries, and have fun with all the new vocabulary words we learned. Writing - After a lesson about developing a strong ending, some revising for stronger verbs, and editing students will finish their narratives and we're off to the computer lab to type/publish. Science - We will begin studying the regions of Georgia, the plants and animals that live in each, and the adaptations they have that make it possible for them to survive there. Have a great weekend!
