Thank you to everyone for dropping off your child and letting them walk to school last Wednesday. Our class was the winning third grade class and was in a 3 way tie for having the most walkers at Tritt! We had almost 100%. What a great way to start our day and now the students have won an extra recess supervised by Dr. Patterson or Mrs. Keesling.
REMINDERS: Every child should take a reading test on a novel they are reading by the end of next week. That is the end of the 3rd nine weeks. Report cards come home on March 23rd. NEXT WEEK: Reading - On Monday at 9 we will take the RI reading test in the computer lab to assess progress in reading comprehension. You will see your child's new, current lexile on the report card. The lesson in the Common Core book will teach/guide the children on how to read Historical Texts. We work on these lessons in small guided reading groups. Students that are not in a group are reading independently or working on vocabulary activities. Ask them how many times they've used one of our new words or found a word in their reading. We're keeping tallies to encourage usage of the words. The homework in that book will come home on Wednesday and be due on Friday. Writing - The students will continue to create a book about the animal they researched. Some students are writing from the point of view of the animal and creating a diary while others are writing a nonfiction book. All books will include 5 facts about the animal and 5 nonfiction conventions. They will also learn about similes and have to include one in their book. Math - It is time to put everything together as we work on 2-step problem solving with problems that include any of the 4 operations. Social Studies - Hopefully, your child will come home telling you all about FDR as we investigate our next American hero. Have a great weekend!
